Colin Martin returns to Minnesota United...or does he?

How we doing Athletic fans? Here's a little mid-week banter to pass the time until our next match. Earlier this evening, Minnesota United posted the below tweet...

...Indicating that central midfielder Colin Martin had returned to practice with his main club. Immediately, many Athletic fans, us included, expressed some serious sadness to see a guy who's been a rock in the midfield for the last 4 league games end his loan and return home.

HOWEVAH! Not so fast my friends, in an attempt to bring you the best, most up to the minute info, us here at Whale City reached out to a few sources and got a SCOOOOOOPPP for you. It looks like the terms of Colin's season-long loan to Hartford Athletic stipulate that he return to Minnesota United for Friendlies and Open Cup matches. But for all USL league games that do not conflict with either of those, Colin should be wearing green and blue (or white...). This makes sense for all parties involved as it gives Minnesota some added depth for non-MLS competitions, gives the player more experience at the top level, and gives Hartford a strong central midfielder for USL League play. So have no fear Athletic fans, Colin should return to the club for this weekend's tilt against Ottawa. Whether he plays tomorrow against Hertha Berlin is up to Minnesota. Hopefully for Hartford's sake he plays some but not too much...and hopefully he stays fully healthy. As I'm sure most of you have been, I've been impressed with Martin's ability in the midfield during the 4 games he's started this season, and see him as someone who adds much needed quality in the possession game for Athletic.

PHEW! Carry on people, carry on.
