Match Recap: FT: LOU 2 – 1 HFD
Well that was an incredible game to watch leaving us with a ton to talk about. Extremely fast paced with Hartford pushing the attack for parts of the first half and most of the second 45.
Hartford goes into Louisville and puts forth their best performance of the season, with an amazing second half where they did everything right just lacking the final quality to put the ball in the back of the net.
In the first half Hartford came out red hot, applying pressure early to Louisville and coming away with the opener. Angulo played a lovely ball towards the back post where Brown came sliding in to score. Our first goal in the run of play! It really showed how dangerous our wingers are especially when they are on the same page with Angulo playing up top. Dalgaard and Brown really stood out to me tonight, as they pushed play up high and did a much better job in transition both on the break and recovering on defense. Angulo also had some great hold up play and really helped pull the midfield into the attack.
The Louisville first goal was a great back pass and a beautiful half volley tucked into the bottom corner by Spencer. The second goal conceded, however, was a gift as Lyngø got his pocket picked at midfield allowing a breakaway that ended with an extremely unlucky bounce off of De Wit past Lissek. The margin of error is small in the USL especially against the defending champs and mistakes like these are ones we have to eliminate going forward.
But also how about that strike from 45 yards out by Lyngø... OH MY GOODNESS!!! He absolutely rocketed one off the woodwork, had it gone in would've been the goal of the year and SC top 10 bound.
Heading into the second half, the lads could've folded after the own goal, but there is NO QUIT in this squad. Angulo creates a chance late in the first half out of seemingly nothing and then I don't know what happened in the locker room but Hartford came out a new team in the second half. Athletic applied consistent pressure on City in the first 15 minutes of the second half, generating numerous chances. The best coming from Angulo breaking in from the left side only to have is shot pushed aside by the keeper.
Hartford deserved an equalizer in the second half from the way they played. They outworked City beating them to seemingly every second ball – winning the vast majority of 50/50s. They continued to push forward up the wings. David and Lee pushed high up the field, applying pressure to their wings as well as joining the attack. We won 7 corners in the second half and had some good looks from set pieces, but just couldn't put one away.
Lastly, Lissek continues to impress in net. He made some HUGE stops tonight that kept us in the game, denying a couple of quality chances from Louisville.
All in all they are getting better every week, and the strides they made from last week to today were inspiring. Hartford is here to compete and I only see this team getting better.
